Remakes, adaptations, steal steal steal!

It seems that lately producers/directors have changed movies from a creative new idea, into how they thought a movie should have been. I’m talking remakes.  Taking perfectly good movies and modernizing them. Apparently modernizing means crappy acting and lots of cgi/explosions (with some exceptions of course). This is a very list heavy Blog.

They have made 5 versions of Dracula, 5 versions of Titanic, 4 Cruel Intentions’, 3 King Kongs, 4 La Femme Nikitas,  4 versions of assault on precinct 13 (it started off a western :p) of course this list goes one.

Here are some remakes you probably didn’t know were remakes:

Birdcage, Vanilla Sky, 12 Angry Men, 101 Dalmations, 3:10 to Yuma, Ben Hur, Flipper, Flubber,  Bucket List,  Scarface. . . etc.

Then movie people switched to comic books. Hell, they have been doing regular books for years, why not try comic books.  Who doesn’t want to see their favourite comic book come to life?  (I’m not going to list comic books- you know all about those ones)

British Tv shows have also been stolen:

Da Ali G show started in the UK,  Hell’s Kitchen, The IT crowd,  The office, Queer as Folk, Spaced (although only a pilot was made in the U.S.), Who’s line is it anyways? , What not to wear…. etc.

Here are remakes in the works:

The Crazies,  Meatballs, Conan, Akira (live action), Karate Kid, Footloose, Short Circuit, The Thing, Hellraiser, Poltergeist, Oldboy, Child’s Play, Rocky Horro Picture Show, Rosemary’s Baby, The Jetsons (live action), My Fair Lady,  Highlander, Battle Royale, Evil Dead, Knight Rider, Frankenweenie, Tron, Warriors, Porky’s, Alice in Wonderland, and ROBOCOP

Sequels in the works:

A v. P 3, Rambo 5, Alvin and the chipmunks 2, Stigmata 2, Cliffhanger 2, The Ring 3, Open Season 2,  Superman:Man of steel, Fast and the Furious 4, Baby Geniuses 3, Step Up 3-D, Spawn 2, and Jumper 2

TV Shows going to the big screen:

Magnum, Arrested Development, The A Team, Wonder Woman, Masters of the Universe, Thundercats, Fraggle Rock, Muppets, Smurfs, Spaced (but Simon Pegg wants nothing to do with it), and Prison Break

Video Games going to the big screen:

Max Payne already came out, Everquest, Gear of War, Spyhunter, Halo, Prince of Persia, Splinter Cell, Metal Gear Solid, Devil May Cry, Rainbow Six, and ANOTHER Mortal Combat.

And to end this List blog, here is what I find the funniest, is a list of kids games they are making into movies:

Monopoly (Ridley Scott), Ouija Board (Platinum Dunes aka Michael Bay), Candyland, Clue and Stretch Armstrong.

None of this angers me really. As any parent would say (to make you feel reaaaally bad) “I’m not mad, I’m disappointed”. The fact that this is happening would be totally okay if the ratio of sucess to failure was higher. Do the original justice!

I have no WORST remake  . . . .way to hard to choose. Best Remake though, IMO,  Dawn of the Dead. That is all.

Let’s all cross our fingers for Watchmen (March 6th)  . . and eventually on Imax!!

“The airport’s always almost empty this time of the year,
so let’s go play on a baggage carousel.
Set our watches forward like we’re just arriving here
from a past we left in a place we knew too well.” – Watermark by the Weakerthans

ANAGRAM FUN!

“Did you know that rearranging the letters of  George Bush gives He bugs Gore, Madonna Louise Ciccone gives Occasional nude income and William Shakespeare, I am a weakish speller?!”

Chad Evans = Cave Hands

Xal Biloski= Is a Kill Box

Sean Biloski (my bro)= Is Ok Lesbian

I love letter play. Words in general are sexy.

I signed up for a few more e-books from the library today. E-books are such a good idea. You still get them for only 14 days and the file just disappears off your computer. Gypsies! That’s how I “read” World War Z. Each chapter even came with it’s own voice.  It was such a pleasure to listen to. Today I got Moby Dick and an intro to German e-book.

Now I can play wow and learn at the same time. “die, vile monster!” = “Sterben, Sie abscheuliches Ungeheuer!” Threats sound way more bad-ass in German.

Only 4 more days left on my Wow Subscription. Which is good, because hopefully by then I will have a full time job. Laura has Thursday off so I am takingthe car to go out and actually hand out resumes. As of today, I have only sent in email resumes..I know, I know, I’m lazy.   Wish me luck!

“I don’t care if it hurts
I want to have control
I want a perfect body
I want a perfect soul
I want you to notice
When I’m not around
You’re so fucking special
I wish I was special”  – Creep by radiohead

Other than the paper cut I just got, things are looking up. I am changing mentally, to change physically. I have been trying to lose weight for two years now.  Working out on and off for months at a time. I’ve lost up to 15 lbs, but I have since gained it back. Over my 5 years relationship with Tyler I gained over 30 lbs.  In all reality I am strong, balanced,  flexible and have decent endurance. As sad as it sounds, this is more of an esthetics thing.  I have been having the BMI tell me that I am overweight for far too long.

Plan:

Routine, routine, routine. God, old me would hate me about now. I joined film because I couldn’t stand monotony, or routine. Variety really was my spice of life. Film fit that perfectly. Now the unstableness of film is getting to me, so I am getting out. I am actually craving routine in my life now. What the Hell? I am looking for a full time job, doing anything really. I just want to focus on saving money for school and my extracurricular activities.  As soon as my job problem is solved,  I am  signing up for the Winnipeg Roller Derby Team! It’s the perfect way to stay active and make friends.  Plus it’s pretty badass.

I would also join kickboxing, but it’s pretty expensive. Roller derby I just need to buy the equipment. *arm pump*

With this weightloss I am going to do one of those photo time lapses. You obviously won’t be able to see it for a while. I’d guess you can see it in a year. That seems reasonable.

I tried the Wii fit yesterday.  My regular standing balance is pretty much perfect apparently. Yet I still blew ass at slightly moving side to side. Skiing and snowboarding were the hardest, while tightrope and penguin slide were the easiest.

We only did the balance games. Next time I would like to try some of the strength exercises.  Regardless the machine was really neat. I was blown away at how precise it was.

Still fairly sick

with 2 comments

“Im hot blooded, check it and see
I got a fever of a hundred and three” – Foreigner

I’m making it seems like I dig these old rock bands aren’t I? While I respect them,  I promise you they aren’t on my playlists.

Also, I do not have a fever, but I am hella sick. I am congested with a clogged throat and nose. I usually get really sick about once a year, hopefully this is it.

I am back at home today, I am supposed to hang out with my friend Jocelyne tonight for some drinks and wii. But I am deathly ill. I bailed on her last week for the same reason, so I feel bad. I think I will try to hang out, but maybe only make it a couple of hours, I do like to wii. Oh wait, that means moving. Ugh.  I’ll figure this out.

Must. .go. . .out . . . need . .  friends. . .

Sickness seems to make me dream a lot. The other night I dreamt about tattoos. Oh how I wish I was getting one.  Althougth it’s pretty far down on my priority list.  Things that trump the tattoo are: Getting out of car loan debt, saving for school ($8000 + living expenses for 3 months-EW), Then Tattoo.

oh! I wanted to make a late resolution. I need to get over my fear of the phone. Woman up, Xal. Whenever my phone rings I just clam up and refuse to answer it. I’m thinking I have some anxiety problems. Only with the phone though it seems. So, I resolute to answer my goddamn phone.

In response to Emily’s Blog:

I actually dreamed about Tbay last night. I have been telling most Tbay friends and myself that I would not be going back until June (For the 3rd annual Themed Bday Bash of course). But I am getting a craving to go early too. However, my EI ran out so I am more concerned about keeping the money flow going.

Winnipeg is very depressing in winter. The colours are so drab. It does make up for it with its summers though. The city turns green! Winter are just plain ole’ dreary.

YOGA!! I used to think it was a sissy workout, until I tried it. I did a drop in class in Thunder Bay at like 6am or something ridiculous.  While I was doing it I was thinking, “this is a little too easy”. I figured with my years of dancing under my belt that my body was just used to doing weird things. Yea, not so much. The next day sucked! The day after that was way worse. I was so sore, but I loved it!

So here are three Yoga places in the village.

Source Yoga Studio

Hot Yoga Winnipeg

Moshka Yoga

The drop is rates seems to be $15-17. I think Hot Yoga Winnipeg might be the best choice (even though it has the worst looking website). I chose Hot Yoga Winnipeg because it has two classes for $20. Cheap is good for us. :)

Maybe we can start a little Yoga group, maybe involving a couple of girls to go yogaing twice a month or something? I have three girls I can think of that might join us.

Here I go again on my own

with 2 comments

“An here I go again on my own
Goin down the only road Ive ever known,
Like a hobo* I was born to walk alone
An Ive made up my mind
I aint wasting no more time”

Good ole’ Whitesnake and some Whitesnake trivia.

That’s right. I’m at it again. This time when I get mad at myself for not updating as frequently as I would like I will try to “Not Give a Fuck“.    Maybe this way I won’t spaz out and delete this blog . . again.

I suggest, if you can, going to see Jon Lajoie live.  He’s a natural at pretending he’s still a normal guy although clearly if he’s touring, he is not really all the normal anymore. Kudos.

I’ve been ridiculously ill the past few days. Being sick helps you figure out the people around you. The ones willing to get sick just to be around you and the ones who are scared of you and your icky-ness. On that note, I have the best Boyfriend known to man-kind. I have pretty much been living here (Chad’s house) whilst sick. Rolling my sick self all over his furniture and making sure I sneeze on all his dishes! Hahaha. In return, I get soup, medicine and orange juice with extra pulp!!  I love pulp and it’s the healthiest part of OJ.

“Orange juice makes a good example of the health difference when you focus on the issue of its pulp. The white pulpy part of the orange is the primary source of its flavonoids. Flavonoids are colorful pigments that support numerous metabolic processes in the body. The juicy orange-colored sections of the orange contain most of its vitamin C. In the body, flavonoids and vitamin C often work together, and support health through their interaction. When the pulpy white part of the orange is removed in the processing of orange juice, the flavonoids in the orange are lost in the process”

That being said, I get it that some people have problems with non-liquid things in their drinks. Some people hate straws, tapioca (bubble tea), or lest not forget the edible lava lamp called Orbitz**.  I personally hate ice in mine, something to do with the ice hitting my mouth.

Hey, everyone is allowed their quirks, and I encourage them.

I can’t believe I’ve been out of bed this long. My eyes and nose are leaking and I am mouth breathing, get me out of here!!

* in the 1987 version this word is changed to drifter.

**Orbitz was a Canadian made drink!
